While living with my mother during the pandemic, I witnessed firsthand the struggles she faced with her swimwear. As she navigated menopause, she found that most swimsuits were suffocating, uncomfortable, or lacked the support she needed. Her experience highlighted a broader issue:
Swimwear often fails to accommodate the beautifully diverse & ever-changing bodies of women.
Driven by a desire to address this gap, we set out to create swimwear that works with our changing bodies, not against them. Inspired by my great-great-aunt Lucy’s classic wool bathing suit from the 1920s, we’re reviving the charm and elegance of swimwear with a modern twist.
SEROTONE SWIM is for those who dread putting on a bathing suit and prefer something that feels like a celebration of their unique beauty.

The material selection, design, and construction are all approached with intention, and we test everything to make sure we are providing top-notch products that actually solve a need.
At SEROTONE SWIM, we value sustainability and recognize where there are failures in the industry. Frankly, there is a lot of greenwashing (especially when it comes to performance fabrics), which is why we are committed to making products that are useful and plan our product releases to minimize waste and overconsumption.
To be transparent, the section below contains our no-filter details about our materials and our plans to work towards more sustainable options. We hope it will help you make informed buying decisions wherever you are in your sustainability journey.
Our 'No-B.S.' Guide to Our Materials
Matte Nylon Spandex
80% Nylon / 20% Elastane
- Pros: Soft, Durable, Smoothing, Quick Drying, Excellent Stretch Recovery
- Cons: Currently derived from fossil fuels, 30-40 yrs to degrade in landfill, microplastics, mixed fibers not easily recycled
- Sustainability: We plan to source nylon derived from castor beans (a renewable resource) once we can meet the minimum order quantities. We are also considering biodegradable nylon if it can provide the same performance properties.
Power Mesh
80% Polyester / 20% Elastane
- Pros: Lightweight, Soft, Durable, Smoothing, Quick Drying, Breathable, Excellent Stretch Recovery
- Cons: Currently derived from fossil fuels, 200+ yrs to degrade in landfill, microplastics, mixed fibers not easily recycled
- Sustainability: We plan to source recycled poly once we can meet the minimums. Unfortunately, recycled poly take 200+ years to degrade
Recycled Poly Printed Mesh
94% Rec Polyester / 6% Elastane
- Pros: Lightweight, Soft, Durable, Quick Drying, Breathable, Recycled Bottles
- Cons: 200+ yrs to degrade in landfill, microplastics, mixed fibers not easily recycled
- Sustainability: We feel good about removing plastic from our oceans, but hope to find a material that will give the same performance and also biodegrade.
Neoprene
81% Polyester / 19% Elastane
- Pros: Structured, Soft, Breathable, Durable, Quick Drying
- Cons: Currenty derived from fossil fuels, 200+ yrs to degrade in landfill, microplastics, mixed fibers not easily recycled
- Sustainability: We plan to source recycled poly once we can meet the minimums. Unfortunately, recycled poly does not biodegrade.
